L2.76 V-고 말다 grammar = end up V-ing…~showing an unplanned action completed in an undesired way.
Usage:
- Showing an unplanned action completed in an undesired way = 'end up V-ing', 'turn into V-ing'
- Adjective can be used if converted to Verb.
E.g. 나쁘다 -> 나빠지다 (example 6)
- Often combined with -겠- or -(으)ㄹ 테니까 to refer the speaker’s strong intention or will.
Adverbs such as 꼭 and 반드시 are often used too.(example 7,8)
- Also combined with -아/어 버리다 to emphasize speaker’s feeling of regret or sorrow.(example 9)
